Hi, my name is Ralph. I was born in Germany, came to the US in 1953 and became an American by heart almost instantly, and after a hitch in the army, officially.
I worked as a toolmaker and later apprenticed and worked 27 years, until retirement as a metal pattern maker. My wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary on 7/22/00. We have a daughter and two sons. I got into model railroading because of my two boys. My other hobbies are/were; horses, kayaks, archery, guitar playing (to myself), and eating.
The model railroad that you see on this web site is the effort of myself and my younger son Richard, who built many of the structures on the layout from scratch.
I am a member of the OCC -OLD CODGERS CLUB-, a group of retirees, doing round robin on each others layouts for operating sessions. I am also a member of the Private Road Name Modelers SIG, the N.M.R.A., and the MIDWEST REGION of the N.M.R.A.
I am proud of the layout we have built. I enjoy showing my work to others and sharing in the fun. I hope you enjoy your visit here. I welcome your critique, constructive or other wise. I’m sure there is room for improvement.
Rolf (Ralph) Plachter.
